Toby Ambohibao

A tight squeeze

Located in the capital city of Antananarivo, Toby Ambohibao is squeezed inside a larger Lutheran compound which also includes a hospital and large church.

  • We’ve upgraded the toby water system, deepening the well, building a tower with storage tank, and installing a solar-powered pumping system.  (Plans are underway to convert the entire toby to 100% solar power.)

  • The Coronavirus pandemic is particularly burdensome for the poor, who are unable to get out to earn a little money to pay for necessities. There are 50 patients and 20 staff members at Toby Ambohibao. Patients’ families, who contribute to the toby for their loved ones’ care, are stuck in place. Staff members, moreover, receive no stipends and are dependent on outside contributions.

  • Our partner, Jaona Andrianasolo, will oversee a systematic distribution of small amounts of funds to enable the patients and staff members to purchase food and other needed items.
